Dec 12, 2024 • 3 minA leading omnichannel bookseller is implementing forecasting and replenishment solutions from RELEX to provide greater visibility across its supply chain.
Thalia Bücher GmbH, the leading bookseller in German-speaking countries, has selected RELEX Solutions, provider of integrated supply chain and retail planning solutions, to optimize its supply chain processes. Thalia will use forecasting and replenishment solutions to improve the availability of books and merchandise in its bookstores and distribution centers and to make its processes more efficient. The project will be carried out in collaboration with Capgemini, a RELEX partner with extensive experience in implementing supply chain transformations.
Thalia has more than 500 bookstores are part of their network in German-speaking countries. They rely on a consistently implemented omnichannel strategy that intelligently links the stationary business and online retailing and offers customers a variety of touchpoints. Each bookstore is much more than just a place for books: it is becoming an experience space with complementary product ranges such as toys or gift and trend items, a personal atmosphere and a local meeting place. With innovative digital services such as the Thalia app, self-checkout options and practical pick-up stations, Thalia is creating a flexible and contemporary shopping experience. The company’s continuous growth required a system that effectively supports and further develops the omnichannel model.
Thanks to the automation of our processes with RELEX, we are gaining deeper insights into our supply chain and are better able to meet the diverse needs of our customers. This way, we ensure that our extensive range is always available in our bookstores and online, creating a consistently positive shopping experience,” says Marco Rebohm, Managing Director Supply Chain & Logistics at Thalia Bücher GmbH. “The RELEX tool is another important milestone in our Log25 transformation program, which is realigning Thalia’s supply chain and logistics as a leading bookseller in German-speaking countries.”
“With RELEX’s AI-driven forecasting and replenishment software, Thalia is even better placed to achieve its goal of increasing the availability of books and merchandise. Advanced algorithms and machine learning models improve forecasting accuracy by identifying patterns and trends in the data. This enables the system to calculate the optimal inventory levels for each book and item, minimizing the risk of out-of-stock items – especially for trend items that should always be available. By automating these processes, Thalia employees gain valuable time for customer service and other core tasks, making operations more efficient and improving the customer shopping experience.”
“With our deep understanding of Thalia’s business model, we can ensure a smooth transition and promote effective change management. By working closely with RELEX, we are helping Thalia to achieve significant added value along its book retailing chain,” explained Jan Lammers, Vice President – Consumer Products, Retail, Distribution & Transportation at Capgemini Invent Germany.
“By implementing our powerful forecasting and replenishment solution, RELEX is helping Thalia offer a wide range of products while ensuring optimal stock levels and availability for its customers in its omnichannel model. We look forward to contributing to Thalia’s continued growth and success in the dynamic book retailing market,” says Michael Hoffmann, Vice President Sales, DACH at RELEX Solutions.
